CALENDAR OF EVENTS

Learn how to "SAVE TOMORROW'S HEARING TODAY" - Come to our meetings!

NOTE:  The Chapter regularly holds Saturday meetings from September through May, of each year.  If you are interested in hosting a Chapter meeting in your Treasure Coast municipality not already shown, contact the Board (see the "Contact Us" page).

  WE NEED YOUR VOTE!

We have been approved and are on the website for possibly obtaining a grant from "A Community Thrives" - an effort with USA Today. See http://act.usatoday.com/ Look for gallery#57946897.

Now we need votes! Lip Reading can do SO MUCH to help many people. For those who are hard of hearing, even if they wear hearing aids, the benefits are great! So pass the word, the Hearing Loss Association of America's Treasure Coast Chapter and the Fort Pierce Lions Club want the votes to get this through the voting process and make lip reading a viable benefit for many on the Treasure Coast.

Thanks!

MEETING SCHEDULE:

Our next meeting will actually be the last until September - we will meet for a social get together on Saturday, May 20th, but there is something special going on in April - see below:

Happy Spring! Due to the fact that our regular meeting date would be the day before Easter Sunday, and IRSC Mueller Campus has no other Saturday available to us in April, we will not meet in April. The college is not available for our May meeting, and that will be our last get together before fall, so we typically meet at a restaurant and have a little info handout and socialize with each other. So, on Saturday, May 20th, let's meet at Cracker Barrel out on Route 60 by I 95, at 10:30 am for brunch and get together! I will have a handout on smartphone apps for hearing loss.

ALSO, and this is SPECIAL!, there is a special hearing loss Expo going on in Orlando by the State HLAA, on Saturday, June 22nd, from 9 - 3. You are all invited. I plan on attending, and can take others with me. Hopefully, others will want to go and perhaps carpool as well. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN GOING - Below is that info:

The State Association and State Chapter Coordinator will host the first annual Let's Make Hearing Loss Visible Extravaganza to take place at the Orlando Health Medical Center April 22nd from 9 until 3. A block of rooms have been reserved for exhibitors and out of area attendees alike at the Hampton Inn -medical center located on the medical center campus. The special room rate remains in effect through April 5, 2017. Please visit hlaa-fl.org for additional information.

A special Friday Florida Evening Social will take place at the Hampton Inn and all are welcome to join in this informal social gathering with fellow attendees and sponsors.
This invitation includes a special announcement and recognition of your hearing family members and friends who continue to support our efforts. So be certain to invite and include them in this very important outreach.

Why the Extravaganza? This first annual event is the stepping stone to long term State Association goals by which to support existing and future Chapter growth for hearing and hearing loss alike of all ages. As funds are made available with future events, Chapter and Self Support Group Leaders will be notified of grants and sponsorship opportunities for hearing loss outreach in your respective communities. Together, we can make HLAA throughout Florida and your respective Chapters and Self Support Groups- VISIBLE!

Extravaganza Information: This special event includes exhibitors and two independent workshops from 9 until 3 respectively. This will include an afternoon two hour Chapter and Self Support Group outreach to be conducted by the Florida State Chapter Coordinator. The 3, 400 square foot facility for our use will include access to an on site cafeteria with access to a wide variety of foods, on site coffee and drinks free of charge throughout the day, drawings and special prizes. Most importantly, both Loop and CART will be available for all respective workshops. The Exhibit area will include a special HLAA Chapter reference table for those seeking additional support to do so through the HLAA Chapters and Self Support Groups.

T
