The Hearing Loss Association of America, (HLAA), the leader in advocacy for people with hearing loss, was founded in 1979, incorporated as a non-profit educational membership organization by CIA retiree Howard E. “Rocky” Stone of Bethesda, Maryland. This great organization now conducts annual national conventions about hearing loss and deafness, as well as Walks for Hearing held all over the country every year, sponsored with the HLAA, all to further the information, education, support and advocacy for those with hearing difficulties.
The Treasure Coast Chapter, Hearing Loss Association of America was formed in September 2007, and represents the counties of the Treasure Coast: Indian River, St. Lucie, and Martin.
We need members, volunteers and donations in order to keep meeting. Our lip reading classes have been a big plus in keeping us going, but the pandemic slowed everything down. We are currently in need of volunteers who can help online with Social Media and with Tech. We are always looking for new members (see the benefits of membership and consider joining us, please – we are a 501 (c)(3) organization, so your membership is tax deductible). In addition to the magazine, you receive information, education, support and advocacy through membership, plus discounts from some great resources, too!
At this time, there are over 90,000 people who have hearing loss on the Treasure Coast, and most do not know of all the ways there are to help them, and the new technology and research being done to assist them.
“Save Tomorrow’s Hearing Today” and along with our other goals, we are determined to help others retain the hearing they have, as much as possible. Informing as to prevention for hearing loss is key. Every day matters – don’t make sound the enemy – make your hearing a treasure! Consider joining the Hearing Loss Association of America today.
Our meetings are currently online, due to the pandemic we are in. Our meetings are from September through May, the 1st Saturday of the Month, at 10:30 AM. To get the Zoom link for meetings and let us know you want to be on our email list, send to: firstname.lastname@example.org
